Wawona is located in a picturesque mountain valley between the Southern Entrance to Yosemite National Park and the turn-off to Badger Pass/Glacier Point. The 104 room Wawona Hotel was completed in the late 1800s, with the most recent $400,000 renovation done in March, 2002. There is a small community of single family residences with a year round population of about 150 people; many of these are rented out through The Redwoods. There are also two historic attractions, the Covered Bridge and the Pioneer History Center.

Recreation opportunities consist of a 9 hole golf course, swimming, tennis, fishing, hiking, stable rides, ranger-led walks and tours of the Pioneer History Center and nearby Mariposa Grove of Big Trees.
